How to measure your watch strap

Selecting the wrong size for your watch strap can lead to discomfort or an ill-fitting appearance. So, how can you easily and accurately determine the correct size? Zenio is here today to illustrate "how to measure a watch strap."

Essential Parameters for Ordering Watch Straps How to Measure Watch Strap Length: End & Short End of Watch Strap To order a set of straps for your watch, you require three fundamental specifications:

  1. Lug Width: This refers to the distance between the two lugs of a watch.

  2. Length of Strap: The watch strap consists of two parts: a short section and a long section.

  3. Buckle Size: This is the component that connects the two sections of the watch strap, ensuring a snug fit on your wrist.

Lug Width

The lug width of a watch indicates the distance between the two lugs, which are the raised sections on either side of the watch case that hold the strap in place. Lug width is crucial as it determines the suitable strap size for the watch. Watch lug sizes typically range from 16 to 26mm, depending on the watch model. It is essential to accurately know this parameter to select the appropriate lug size for the watch strap.

You can measure the lug width using a ruler or obtain information from the watch manufacturer. (If uncertain, you can contact Handdn for assistance.)

Length of Strap The watch strap comprises two sections: a short end and a long end, which help secure the watch on your wrist. The length is determined based on your wrist circumference.

Usually, watch strap lengths come in three basic sizes: Short length, Regular length, and Long length, depending on the wearer’s wrist circumference (for watch faces of average size 35 – 40 mm).

Short length: 105 – 65 mm Regular length: 115 – 75 mm Long length: 125 – 85 mm Based on your wrist size, you can choose the appropriate length as follows:

Your wrist 14.5 – 16.5 cm: choose Short length Your wrist 16.5 – 18.5 cm: choose Regular length Your wrist 18.5 – 21.5 cm: choose Long length Note: For special cases where wrist size or watch face size differs, please contact us for assistance.

Buckle Width The buckle connects the two sections of the watch strap, ensuring a secure fit on your wrist. There are various types of buckles for watches: Butterfly clasp, tang clasp, folding clasp, etc.

Usually, the strap comes with a buckle, but if you intend to use your existing buckle, you must know its size, which is typically an even number.

Zenio straps include tang buckles. This guide is for a classic watch strap using a tang clasp. If you have a different style of clasp, ensure the strap style you choose matches the clasp you’re using.
